  • Vocation programs: We support organizations that reach out to mentor & train young individuals in life skills.

OUR PROJECTS

Sickle Cell Aid Foundation

This year, we’ve chosen the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation (SCAF). SCAF is an NGO that provides specialist healthcare + support for sickle cell warriors and amplifies awareness of Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) in Nigeria. Yearly, 150,000 kids are born with SCD and 100,000 of these die before they turn 5.
Through its Know Your Genotype Campaign (KYGC) , SCAF promotes awareness of SCD.

Since 2012, SCAF has carried out free genotype testing, counselling and collated important data on sickle cell prevalence. Their efforts have caused awareness in Nigeria’s capital city; Abuja to rise by 7% – fantastic-, as almost half (49%) the city did not know their genotype prior!

ICANA is raising funds for a campaign to test between 300 – 400 people. There are still towns and villages so far removed; as to not have heard the word ‘genotype’ before. We cannot allow more children to be born into needless suffering and fear of the next ‘crisis’.
Money raised will go towards covering the costs of the equipment and services required: gloves, 2ml syringe + needle, sample collection bottles, laboratory screening, spirit, etc.

We need a minimum of N150 ,000 (approx $1,000 CAD) to even meet our base target, but it’d be great to surpass it!

SCAF’s mission is to annihilate the inheritance of SCD and we invite you to join us on that journey.
With your support, we can #BreakTheSickleCycle.
